Description
25 Daphné-class submarines were built from the mid-1960s for both the French Navy and export customers by DCNS. These small diesel-electric submarines were also exported to Portugal, South Africa, Spain and Pakistan. In French service, two subs of the class were lost early in their lives (Minerve in 1968, Eurydice in 1970) from the original 11 unit series, the rest being upgraded in the 1970s with new sonars and newer armament.
