Description
Three of these anti-submarine warfare destroyers were built for the JMSDF in the late 1960s, a development of the Yamagumo-class, these vessels were fitted out to handle the QH-50D DASH anti-submarine drone helicopter at the expense of the ASROC box launcher. The QH-50 was not a great success and the facilities for it were eventually removed, with these vessels regaining an ASROC launcher in the 1980s. The remainder of the battery consisted of torpedoes and a Swedish-built ASW rocket launcher.
