Description
The M51 Skysweeper was an American anti-aircraft artillery mount incorporating a gun-laying radar, autoloader, and an analog fire director intended to engage short range targets, as SAM platforms at the time were ineffective at such distances. It was retired in US service by the late 1950s, with foreign operators such as Japan and Turkey using them until the 1960s/70s.
