Description
Three Kitty Hawk-class carriers (plus one development thereof) were built for the USN in the early 1960s. These vessels are to some level a development of the Forrestal-class supercarriers. These ships were originally fitted with systems to operate the Terrier SAM, but these were later removed. USS America is a slight modification of the original two platforms and is generally considered to be one of the three Kitty Hawks.
