Description
The P-2 was designed as a replacement for the PV-1 and PV-2 maritime patrol aircraft in US service. It was widely successful as an export aircraft, and later variants were equipped with jet engines for additional power on takeoff. Although replaced in US service by the P-3, it remains in use with NATO allies. It is license produced by Japan as the P-2J, and is known as the CP-122 and P-15 in Canadian and Brazilian service respectively.
