Description
The Skipjack was the first US submarine design to fully leverage the performance potential inherent in the streamlined Albacore hull shape. Compared to earlier subs, they could travel well in excess of 30 knots, rendering them immune to the anti-submarine weapons of the day. This is a late 1960's outfit of the class, with all six vessels intact before 1969, and still utilizing slow Mark 37 and straight-running Mark 16 torpedoes, without missiles or towed sonar arrays.
