Description
The Project 1134 Berkut (NATO: Kresta I-class) was designed as a larger and more capable successor to the Prj. 58 (Kynda-class) missile cruisers, which turned out top-heavy and too cramped. Berkut is intended for the anti-ship role but has much improved capabilities for anti-air and anti-submarine warfare. If these ships are allowed into the North Atlantic convoy routes they could prove a real threat to NATO as raiders.
