RIM-8J 탈로스는 미 해군의 순양함에서 주력으로 운용된 대형 장거리 함대공 미사일 체계입니다. 중간유도 단계에서는 빔라이딩 유도를 이용해 비행하며, 종말유도 단계에서 반능동 레이더 유도 방식을 이용합니다. RIM-8 탈로스는 발사 전에 본체와 부스터를 조립하는 과정이 선행되므로, 신형 미사일들에 비해 발사 속도가 느립니다. 이는 탈로스의 거대한 탄약고로 유추 가능합니다.
